Hailing from Kochi, Basstides is a DJ duo making a mark in DJing and music production within the progressive house, big room, and techno scenes. The duo consists of two friends, Darin and Athul—two passionate young artists creating and performing their own music on the dance floor. They first met during their college allotment process. Among many students, they happened to connect, talk, and discover their shared passion for electronic music. It came as a surprise to both of them, but fate brought them to the same college. Excited by this coincidence, they saw it as an opportunity to grow musically and began jamming together.
Both were inspired and motivated by the EDM duo Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike. Darin began his journey as a DJ at a young age, drawn to discovering and listening to new music. Over time, he developed a deep interest in electronic music and explored festivals like Tomorrowland and Ultra Miami. That exploration led him to collect tracks and learn DJing. He started by playing devotional EDM tracks at church events before moving on to larger stages. On the other hand, Athul started as a music producer. During his late school years, he was fascinated by DJ Chetas' mashups, which sparked his curiosity in music production. He began creating his own mashups on his mobile phone. Soon, he wanted to compose original songs, but with limited resources, he started producing music entirely on his phone. His passion for music followed him everywhere, and he created whenever he could. It was during one such moment that Darin happened to see Athul producing music on his phone. That encounter marked the beginning of Basstides. At the time, Darin was already performing live. Realizing the potential and skills they both brought to the table, they decided to join forces to take Basstides to the next level.
With the help of connections Darin had, Basstides performed their first live set at a New Year's Eve party in 2017. That performance helped them build a social media presence and led to more gig opportunities. At the event, they met DJ/Producer Jimmy Godrick, who became a key figure in their journey. With Jimmy’s support, they collaborated on a remix of Jimikki Kammal, which turned out to be a breakthrough for the duo. The track earned them more live shows and motivated them to push further. Currently, the duo is focusing on mainstream electronic genres along with tech house and techno. They are planning to release more tracks in the coming months. Athul shares that Basstides has helped him establish his identity as an artist, which fuels his passion for creating music, entertaining people, and inspiring others. Despite the challenges they have faced, they continuously push their limits and strive to improve every day. As Athul puts it: 'Do something with what you already have.'
