George Thomas, also known as Jorj, is an electronic music producer from Kerala. His musical journey started during his school years at the age of 14. He started his journey as a guitarist and found it exciting and fun. It all changed when he met Kevin, who shed light on his vision of the guitar. Meeting Kevin was a transformative event for him. He changed Jorj’s perspective and vision of the guitar and music. Eventually, his interest developed into a passion. He participated in state youth festivals and other competitions, gaining recognition from many musicians, and his passion gradually took over his mind.
Due to his school schedule, Jorj grew isolated, and music became his only escape. He found him immersing in it. After high school, he chose to pursue music as a career and wanted to learn further. His family was against the idea of him becoming a musician at first, but through his constant efforts, he secured admission to Berklee. Unfortunately, he couldn’t join due to his circumstances at the time. This made his family understand his passion, and they became supportive of him. Later, he was admitted to Point Blank Institute in the UK. George had a deep love for rock and metal music. In college, he found himself immersing in different types of music and musical cultures from around the world. When he first introduced to electronic music, he developed a keen interest in it, which led him to start making it. In the beginning, he faced difficulties with the tools, however, he put in the effort to learn from friends and other sources. He then learned more about electronic music and fell deeply in love with it. J Dilla is an inspiring music producer for him, whose unique blend of drum grooves further inspired Jorj to experiment with beats and sounds. He began producing boom bap beats and experimenting with 808 sounds, eventually developing his own style and blend within the genre. He then started exploring different genres such as drum and bass, house, and lo-fi. Now, his multi-genre experiences and guitar skills help him to experiment with different sounds and develop his own unique style.
He believes that every genre has its own history, which makes it unique. Opening up to different styles of music helped him become more diverse and allowed him to enjoy music even more. He says that the people around him have helped him explore different genres, allowing him to grow as an artist and try new things. Stepping out of his comfort zone, improving his skills, and making music are the things that keep him excited and happy. He is deeply grateful for the people around him who have shaped him into the artist he is today. He says, “It is the experiences around me that inspire me to do more every day and motivate me to learn and explore more.”
