Fredy Rocazaurus, who’s been a steady presence in Kerala’s rock and glam metal scene for over a decade, is a multi-talented guitarist, vocalist, and the powerful frontman of the band Rocazaurus and guitarist of Left 2 Riot. Hailing from the vibrant coastal city of Kochi, Fredy is more than just a performer, he’s a passionate teacher and a lifelong student of the guitar. With his fiery stage presence, slick solos, and soaring vocals, he’s helped revive the spirit of 80s glam metal in a state better known for its Carnatic roots.
Fredy’s journey began at a young age, thanks to his music-loving uncles who introduced him to the world of Rock music. His uncles encouraged him to learn an instrument, and signed him up for drums, but fate had other plans. He picked up the guitar on a whim and never looked back. Trained for a decade at Kochi’s iconic Kalabhavan, Fredy studied music theory and earned certifications, though his heart was always set on rock. Due to his immense passion for rock music, Fredy found himself wanting more than the structured, academic approach of traditional institutes, leading him to explore and learn on his own. He started learning songs by slowing down tape cassettes, training his ear the old-school way. Inspired by the G3 DVD and the mind-blowing wizardry of Steve Vai, he began obsessing over technical mastery and feel. During this time, he also trained with Baiju Dharmajan, one of the most respected guitarists in Kerala, but due to circumstances, his journey with Baiju was on and off.
Rocazaurus was formed in 2010 as a trio—Fredy on guitar and vocals, Jose on bass, and Noel on drums. They started out with covers, but by 2013, their focus had shifted to original music. The band exploded into the scene, playing competitions across India and even winning Strawberry Fields, one of India’s top band contests. As a result, they opened for rock legend Slash in Bangalore, sharing the lineup with Indus Creed and Skrat. He later joined Left 2 Riot, a five-piece glam metal band that began with covers of Dokken and Bon Jovi before moving into original music. Now as a professional guitar teacher, Fredy focuses on building real musicianship—encouraging his students to dig deeper into the ‘why’ behind the music and helping shape the next wave of passionate, skilled guitarists. Fredy says "The beginning is always the hardest—most people don’t really know what to do. But if you stick with it, it turns into something real."
